No Surprise, Hotel Wi-Fi Demand is Up

It is no surprise that when choosing a hotel, Wi-Fi is the #1 amenity customers demand. Most hoteliers know this, and realize that if they are to stay ahead of the competition, it’s imperative that they provide their guests with the best online experience possible. In Jill Schensul’s article “Hotels strain to meet Wi-Fi demand,” Stuart Greif, vice president and GM of the global travel and hospitality practice at J.D. Power and Associates stated “Guests increasingly expect hotels to offer Internet access that is consistently available and working properly, we have reached a point where problems with Internet access will more severely impact guest satisfaction levels with each passing year.”

With their increasing use of more mobile devices and streaming video, guests are stretching hotels existing networks to their limits, challenging hoteliers’ ability to deliver a high quality online experience. One way they can manage through this growing demand for bandwidth is to find a vendor that is able to help them get the most out of the bandwidth they already have. A popular solution hotels are beginning to implement is a tiered pricing model where bandwidth to surf the internet is free, while higher levels of bandwidth for those streaming video, transferring data via peer-to-peer connections, and working on data intensive projects, comes for a fee.
